Blog #9

Last class we got to discuss the issue that Cotati dealt with a few weeks ago regarding one of the councel members that dressed in blackface and post it up on his blog. I was personally shocked that someone of such high power would go this far in an issue that has to do with race. This came of as racist to me, i feel that he went to far, painting his face a different color to try to appear as a black male, not only that but also wearing the afro. It was as if he was making fun of them, he showed disrespect to the african americans. Not even after Obama got eleceted president did people's mind of poking fun at other people change.

  1. well i some what agree with what you say but i think that the truth is that he was just acting stupid and not racist beacsue if he was trying to be racist i dont think he would of posted on his blog where everyone was able to see to because he has a lot to loose. by what i saw by reading his respond is that many thought it was racist while others actually thought that it wasnt that he was just trying to be funny. i think that depends on how open we have our mind and also who is the one playing the prank on.

  2. I agree with you that it does look racist and that a councilman shouldn't have posted this on his blog where everyone can see. He should have thought a little more before he acted. I do think it all depends how you look at things. I personally don't think he was trying to be racist, although that's what it came off as. I think he was trying to be funny and it rubbed people the wrong way.

  3. You are very right. And I agree 100%. He wasn't proving anything by joking around by saying "Ohh, look at me, I'm funny because I'm black!"
No. A man of his stature shouldn't be joking around with a topic as heavy as race.
And I also agree with the fact that that he just conveniently decides to dress blackface AFTER Obama gets elected...
Makes you question what hes really trying to get at...
