In my personal opinion I believe that students should be able to wear clothes that they want to wear. Of course the clothing has to be appropriate. But for example the video of the student who wasn't able to wear the Obama shirt, I think that was wrong. The shirt did not entail anything bad or disrespectful in any way. The young boy demonstrated other shirts that he had worn before, which had wrestlers and indicated violence. He never had a problem wearing those to school I really don't understand why the Obama shirt would be any different. I think it all comes down to the racism that is still going on in this world. People should just be accepting and be happy that we are going to have change.

Unfortunately for people like us, people HAVE to be racist still. If everyone wasn't racist, then we would be living in a perfect world. The boy SHOULD have the right to wear that Obama shirt, but we have to remember about his own safety, kids at school might not appreciate what he is wearing and so the poor innocent boy may get jumped and seriously injured, all because of a shirt. If only we could live in a world with no racism.. but unfortunately we don't.
ReplyDeleteI think it was wrong for that boy can’t be able to wear Obama shirt too. I don’t think Obama photograph doesn’t mean anything bad. And now he is the president, so that’s the fact. People just don’t like what is going on in the real world right now, I think.
ReplyDeleteTrue to that, the WWE shirts that the boy had is what I think we call is somewhat "socially" accepted. The Obama shirt that the boy had is clearly at least since the boy isn't really arguing politics. It all comes to down to racism just like you said, If that boy probably wore that shirt, you're looking at potential discrimination, and beat downs, or even worse. Even after about fifty years the nation still has racism and discrimination around. Its very sad but true, and the possibility of stuff like this happen everyday.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. The violent shirts are far worse than a change in presidents. You have to wonder why those kind of violent shirts are allowed in schools at all. It's awful to thing that racism is still occuring and at that it is being taught at that young of an age.
ReplyDeleteWhat is appropriate? Who decides? Is there a definition that we can all agree on? I don’t think there is and that the problem no one knows where the line is so there will always be conflict and debate.
